Types of Spray Foam

Spray foam is a polymer.
When used, it expands to fill the space.

Spray foam comes
in two main types: open cell and closed cell. The difference between them is how much air is trapped inside each cell. Both types are easy to install using special equipment and require only one coat application depending on your needs (open cell requires two).

Closed Cell Spray Foam

Closed-cell spray foam is stronger than open-cell and can be used in applications where durability is important (such as in walls).  Closed-cell works better above that temperature range due to its thicker insulation properties.
Closed cell foam hardens as it dries.
This enables it to successfully stop all air that tries to penetrate it.

Pros:-Open cell foam is easier to apply than closed cell foam, because it requires no special equipment or training. It is also less expensive than closed-cell foam.
Open cell foam protects against moisture and air infiltration better than closed cell foam, which means that it can be used in a wider range of applications.
Cons: May absorb less shock than open cell foams.
Closed cell foams are often denser than open cell foams.
Breathability is less than that of open cell foams.

Open Cell Spray Foam

Open-cell spray foam is the most common type of insulation because it's easy to install and offers great performance for a low price point. Open-cell spray foam works well for temperatures below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Open cell foam stays soft and it absorbs air that tries to pass through it.
Pros:- Open cell foam is lightweight, so it's easy to install.
- Open cell spray foam is versatile and can be used for both interior and exterior applications.
- Open cell foam has excellent soundproofing properties.

Cons:- Open cell spray foam expands when wet, so it's not recommended for outdoor use in humid climates.- Because open cell spray foam is porous, it can't be used in areas where moisture will be trapped inside the material. This type of insulation will not work well in areas that are prone to flooding or humidity (such as basements).
